Satanta

Satanta, or White Bear, was a Kiowa chief that signed the Medicine Lodge Treaty of 1867, but continued raiding white settlements.  He was seized by General Sherman, tried, and sentenced to death, but later pardoned and released.  After another raid, he was sentenced to prison, but committed suicide in a hospital rather than submit to a prolonged prison sentence.
