Spotted Tail

Spotted Tail, a Brule Sioux, gave himself up as a hostage to spare his tribe, which was to be punished by the Army for a raid on settlers.  In 1877, he negotiated the treaty with the government by which his nephew, Crazy Horse, surrendered to the Army.  Spotted Tail was later killed in reprisal by one of his own tribe.
