Red Cloud

Red Cloud was an Oglala Sioux and carried on such a fierce war across the northern plains that the U.S. government temporarily agreed to peace on his terms.  Later, when he realized further war meant extermination, he turned negotiator; but only reluctantly.  He said, "I suppose I must in time go to farming, but I can't do it right away."
